Mornings with Jeff and Rebecca

This Popular Bible Verse Is Often One Of The Most Misunderstood

By February 5, 2019 No Comments

A Bible Verse that we often find ourselves quoting a lot whenever things feel chaotic is Jeremiah 29:11 which says:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  – Jeremiah 29:11

However, just like many other verses, context is something that isn’t necessarily considered when reading this verse as Rebecca goes deeper into explaining the background behind the verse. You see, Jeremiah was a prophet during the Old Testament which means God was speaking to Israel at the time. Of course, this isn’t to say that God doesn’t have a plan as that couldn’t be further from the truth. But this whole idea that prosperity and wealth await us is also a false notion as God never promises us that we’ll be rich, healthy, or even succeed by our societal standards.
