KCBI's Ministry Spotlight

Buckner International’s

Shoes for Orphan Souls

To a child in need, going back to school with a new pair of shoes isn’t just a fashion statement – it’s hope!  Show a child who needs shoes most the love of Jesus. Send them back to school with a brand-new pair of shoes.  Beginning August 1, we’re partnering with Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls, asking you to drop off a new pair of athletic shoes at any area Mint Dentistry or another drop-off location near you.  Learn more here.

MEET and take a pic with Texas Rangers player Nomar Mazara on Saturday, Aug. 17 from Noon-1:00pm!  He’ll be collecting new shoes for kids who otherwise wouldn’t have them at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, 2302 Bickers Street, Dallas.  Come as early as 11:00am, get in line and say “Hi” to KCBI’s Rebecca Carrell (Mornings with Jeff & Rebecca).  Rebecca will be there until 2:00pm to greet you.

The Power of a Shoe

That new pair of shoes that you drop off this month for Shoes for Orphan Souls could change not only a child’s life, but the whole family’s.  “Before I got involved with Buckner International, it felt like I was carrying something heavy on my back all the time,” said Patricia, a single mother of four children – three of whom have special needs. “Buckner provided parenting classes, especially to help with children who have special needs.  I earned points to be able to ‘buy’ things for them – shoes, clothing, mattresses.  I still have stress, but now I can manage it.”

Like many other parents, new shoes were the last thing on her back-to-school list.  “Sometimes, as a single parent, you have to buy shoes or you have to buy food,” said Patricia.  “So if you are buying shoes for [the DFW Shoe Drive] thank you!  Many kids going back to school otherwise would have no new shoes.”

The shoes her children received from Buckner have helped Patricia to understand more about God’s love for her. “I used to complain to God because I didn’t have everything I wanted.  Now I understand that everything comes from Him.  He has given us what we need because of His love for us.”

As you get ready for back to school with your kids, here’s an opportunity to help a family like Patricia’s. Bring a new pair of athletic shoes to any participating Mint Dentistry in the area or at other drop-off locations listed here.  While all sizes are welcome, the biggest need this year is for boys’ shoes, sizes 1-5, and girls’ sizes 4-5.
