Have You Ever Been Afraid To Pray?

By February 12, 2019 No Comments

It may sound like a weird question, but have you ever been afraid to pray? Rebecca deals with back problems periodically and this weekend was one of those times where it was starting to act up again. However, as she was sitting down journaling her prayer in her quiet time, she didn’t ask God to heal her pain because she was afraid that God would disappoint her with His answer. Even if you’ve never with that particular situation, it’s no doubt that we have all at least faced a time when we prayed for God to do something and later came to find out that he didn’t grant our request. But if you look at Luke 22 when Jesus is praying to God before his crucifixion on the cross, he always starts and ends the prayer with the same words, “if it’s your will.” What if we had this mindset in our own prayer walk?

What to Pray When You Don’t Know How

1. God will give you what you need. What we need and what we want is not usually the same thing.
Phil 4:19 – And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

2. God will strengthen you to persevere when He says no. 2 Cor 12:9 – But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

3. God will never leave you alone in your suffering. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.
